The AR-media Plugin from Inglobe Technologies is and add-on for Google SketchUp that exports the 3D model created as an AR application. The free version of the plugin allows for full testing of the software. The Professional version adds the ability to create custom markers and export the AR scene for viewing on other computers using the free AR-media Player.

SketchUp is a free, very intuitive drawing system from Google that allows you to create 3-D models from scratch. Learning SketchUp for prepress professionals will be fairly straightforward as many of the tools are similar to those found in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. A series of video tutorials is available for SketchUp and is recommended for all first-time users.

Metaio Unifeye Viewer is a plugin for Adobe Flash Builder and is used to create augmented reality scenes that are deployed via the Web using Adobe Flash technology. The final AR scene that is created using these tools only requires a browser with the ubiquitous Flash plugin, so no additional application installation is necessary for the end user.

Geared more towards designers, Metaio Unifeye Design is an application that is used to create AR scenes that are destined for computer monitors, televisions, and kiosk systems.

Metaio also offers Mobile SDK. Geared more towards developers, Mobile SDK  is used to create AR applications for iPhone, Android, Symbian, and WinMobile devices.

Total Immersion D’Fusion Studio is a software solution designed to create augmented reality applications. Geared more towards developers, D’Fusion Studio is based on the Lua programming language.

D’Fusion Studio is the application that is used to develop the augmented reality applications—but the application must also be deployed for the end user using one of the following: D’Fusion Online allows augmented reality to be viewed via the Web with Adobe Flash, and D’Fusion Mobile can be used to deploy augmented reality applications to mobile devices.
